The health care services offered by Hacettepe University Hospitals, which holds the leading position in medicine education as well as being among the highly esteemed Turkish institutions on the international platform, were initiated in 1966 when Hacettepe Medical Center Hospital was brought into service. Hacettepe has endeavored to achieve excellence since then, and it has become the preeminent health care center of Turkey comprising of 4 hospitals that accommodate exhaustive equipment, which keeps up with the modern medicine and which is utilized by physicians with profound knowledge. In addition to the quality health care services offered to patients coming from all over Turkey, Hacettepe Hospital also proudly serves as a major training center for Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine students and residents.
Approximately 550 academic staff members, 700 residents, 759 medical technicians, 1100 nurses, 300 caregivers and 1200 administrative employees in various units work in Hacettepe University Hospitals. Hacettepe University Hospitals provides health care services at a total of 4 hospitals. Comprised of 9 blocks at the Medical Campus in Sıhhiye, the complex of hospitals constitutes İhsan Doğramacı Children’s Hospital with Blocks 1, 2 and 3; Hacettepe Adult Hospital with Blocks 4, 5, 6 , 7 and 8; and Oncology Hospital with Block 9. Our hospitals, which offer health care services to 1,000,000 outpatients and 50,000 inpatients, perform 35,000 surgeries and approximately on an annual basis in addition to providing 24-hour emergency services, have a capacity of 1040 beds.

Background
The Professorship of Pediatrics, which is deemed to be the starting point of Hacettepe University Hospitals, was founded under Ankara University Faculty of Medicine by Prof. İhsan Doğramacı in 1954. Hacettepe University commenced offering health care services in Hacettepe as the Institute and Hospital of Child Health in 1957 while the activities in regards to training, education and research were initiated in 1958. School of Health Sciences which began delivering education on Nursing, Medical Technology, Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation was established in 1961, and it also included Nutrition and Dietician in 1962. Hacettepe School of Health Sciences was changed into Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences while Schools of Basic Sciences, Nursing, Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation, Medical Technology and Health Technology were re-organized under the faculty. School of Dentistry was also established under Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. Hacettepe Center of Science was established in 1965 so as to ensure the coordination among the education institutions of Hacettepe University while Hacettepe Center of Medicine was established and Hacettepe Center of Medicine Hospital was brought into service in 1966. Pursuant to Law No. 892 dated 8th June 1967, the core institutions which have been organized and developed as mentioned were incorporated as Hacettepe University that began giving education with its Faculties of Medicine, Health Sciences, Physical and Social Sciences. Adult Hospital and Oncology Hospital were brought into service in 1967 and 1993 respectively. Having introduced several latest practices in Contemporary Medicine Education and health care services to our country, Hacettepe University Hospitals has delivered education to 11,498 physicians and 4789 specialist physicians within the past 50 years.
Health Care Services
JCI (Joint Commission International) granted accreditation to health care services provided in Hacettepe University Hospitals in 2007 and periodic audits in regard to international quality standards have been conducted since then. Hacettepe University is the first public institution in Turkey to provide health care services in conformity with JCI standards.
Team work provides a basis for the provision of health care services in Hacettepe University Hospitals. Thanks to the profound knowledge of world renowned scientists who work at Faculties of Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Nursing and Health Sciences; even exceedingly difficult diseases are diagnosed and treated successfully. Approximately 350 Professors, 150 Associate Professors, 50 Assistant Professors and 40 Specialist Physicians work in our hospitals.
In addition to patients who apply to Hacettepe University Hospitals from all over Turkey for particularly the diseases that are difficult to diagnose and treat, over 3000 patients from more than 30 countries applied to International Patient Coordination in 2013 with the majority of patients coming from Azerbaijan, Iraq and Cyprus.
Training and Research
Hacettepe University was listed within the top 500 according to ‘University Ranking by Academic Performance’ prepared by URAP Laboratory in 2013. Our university is on the 1st rank in Turkey.
Medical Device Park
Our hospitals have the largest and most advanced medical device park of Turkey. Medication administration to patients is managed with pyxis system, which ensures patient safety to the maximum level. Intensive care units have been equipped with the state of art technology and are capable of advanced life support practices such as ECMO, HFO, CVVH, a Novalis -stereotactic radiosurgery, stereotactic radiotherapy device, Cyber-knife, PET-CT, Linear Accelerator, cyclotron, 3 Tesla MRG and PE.
Surgical Experience
The team of surgeons in Hacettepe Hospitals perform the most complicated surgeries in Turkey. Our organ transplantation program is among the most extensive programs in Turkey. Approximately 5,000 Class A, 8,500 Class B, 9,000 Class C, 6,000 Class D and 7,500 Class E surgeries are performed successfully by nearly 400 surgeons, 70 surgical nurses and 75 surgical technicians in an operating room department with 27 rooms every year.
Nursing Services
Having attained a significant position on national and international platforms in respect to the health care services offered as of its establishment, Hacettepe University has its top-notch nursing services as one of the major reasons for its success. In the hospitals of our university, nursing services that are based on taking an efficient advantage of information services are provided in conformity with the international standards, independently and with a scientific basis, and a service mentality that prioritizes patient/employee safety and satisfaction. The organizational structures and nursing services model of Hacettepe University Hospitals has set an example to several other institutions. Consultancy and support services have been provided on these subjects and Hacettepe has become a preferred institution in training nurses for privatized institutions as well as in the education of student nurses. Nursing services are maintained to the international level through collaborating with nursing services coordination in terms of academic and clinical environments.
Research
In addition to the clinical services in a great number of laboratories in Hacettepe University Hospitals, studies are carried out in order to develop new methods for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. Several studies are conducted in collaboration with international centers in order to research current treatments. A great number of scientists who have been granted national and international awards work in our university hospitals. Hacettepe holds the first rank in Turkey in respect to the articles issued in international refereed journals and the number of references to these articles.
Furthermore, Clinical Researches Unit which was established in November 2009 conducts the audit and regulation activities in regard to clinical researches. 65 international clinic researches are current carried out in respect to the latest medications, devices or methods and these are monitored by Turkish Republic Ministry of Health, USA Federal Drug Administration (FDA) and European Medicines Agency (EMA).

Students who have achieved the highest scores at university entrance exam receive education in Hacettepe University Hospitals. 34 Departments and 42 Subdivisions which offer graduate programs are available in our hospitals.
